Romans 10:17

Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ ~ Romans 10:17

Faith can only come by hearing. If you have never heard about Jesus, God the Father, the Holy Spirit and His salvation, how can you come to have faith in Him? Faith comes through His word, not from works. The same theology works for both: I cannot work my way to heaven, I must know Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour and believe in Him. I cannot share about God by being a hard worker; I have to tell others about Him. The apostles wrote and spoke about Jesus with others, preaching the gospel to the Gentiles. More and more, we have that same opportunity as we live in an ever more Gentile world. Though the word of God is written in more languages every year, many in my part of the world never pick up a Bible to read, or go to church to hear the word of God spoken! We have a charge to speak about Christ! Yet, why then are we not as bold as the disciples of the New Testament times? Certainly, our God is the same today as He was yesterday, and certainly His revelation can still be seen in this world. The other day for the first time a black hole was visually seen! Who created that hole? God! Yet, science attributes it to “science fiction becomes science fact.” God: Creator; Christ: Saviour; Holy Spirit: Inspiration of Truth; who can hear unless we speak? Who can have faith unless they hear?

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans ~ Romans 8:26 Many days, many times, I have the words for prayer. It comes forth and flows fairly naturally as I converse with my Lord God. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert ~ Isaiah 43:19 When we meet a challenge, we are often found discouraged, lost, even hopeless. Nothing is working, everything seems to be against us. We do not know how to move forward, so we remain curled up in a ball. Then, a glimmer of light shines through!
