Jude 1:20,21

But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life ~ Jude 1:20, 21

Every day we must be attentive to our character, to living a life which is an attestation to the Holy Spirit which resides within us. Our faith is built by reading God’s Word, by meditation, by spending time with Him in prayer, and within these parameters a strong foundation is laid. The foundation of our character is essential, for the “building” will either be built upon a rock, or upon shifting sands. Once our foundation is secure, we can begin the building process, but again, the finished product depends upon our building material. The Holy Spirit is our Guide, and every stone we lay on the foundation of our character must be attached to Christ and His sacrifice for us. Jude tells us to keep yourselves in God’s love, for character building is a progressive work, continual work, and Christ’s Holy Spirit does not transform us into His likeness in one day…it is a progression of experiences, of trusting and faith, and living following His commands and in His love. We are being built for eternity, in holiness, in our inner personhood – that is the heart of the matter for God. Our family, our health, our business is all exterior, some have called it the “scaffolding” for the building. Do not mistake the scaffolding for the building, it is said. Your character is what matters to God!
