John 1:16

Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given ~ John 1:16

A couple of verses earlier (14), John has said Jesus is “full of grace and truth.” It is of that which we, as disciples have received. What this means is that we have received from Him the truth of how His mercy and grace brings to us the plan of salvation, for us to then preach the Good News gospel, and to live lives of holiness as we model Him who gave His life to save us. We no longer live under the law; we have instead received abounding mercy as our sins have been washed away in Jesus Christ. We have favour now, instead of punishment, we have been pardoned of our past. Jesus is our living bread, our fountain of spring water, living now within us. This is the grace of Christ. If grace is lacking in your life, if spiritual supplies are failing within you, check the channel. That is what is sometimes at fault, and not the stream. God’s supply is vast and there is no exhaustion to His grace. I found this wonderful little prayer, though I am not sure who the author is. “Oh, Lord, give us grace to feel our need of grace. Oh, Lord, give us grace to receive grace. Oh, Lord, give us grace to ask for grace. Oh, Lord, give us grace to use grace when grace is given.” Perhaps, that should be our prayer today. I would prefer to have God’s grace than any earthly honour.
