James 1:12
Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him ~ James 1:12
The affliction, trial, persecution that James talks about is very general, and could be anything which tries our “reality” of peace. It is mentioned in a way which will try or test the reality of our faith and religion, and it may lead us to actual sin, but certainly, it is a direct solicitation to entice us. Temptations come in all sizes and shapes, and they vary from person to person. They could be as simple as eating a food which will harm you if you are a diabetic, or it could be as strong as marital infidelity, or even to go further, murder. We are all tempted in the ways in which Satan knows is our weaknesses, and there he will attack. Ultimately, God knows us through and through, and if our faith remains strong in Him, He will help us through the testing, and with Him we will be victorious. We need wisdom to learn the lessons of experience, and though it is tough going through trials of faith, this is how we learn and grow in dependence upon God’s power in our life. Some trials come upon us because God has appointed it, we are placed in circumstances in which we have no control, and all control is then in God’s hands. Oh, how we struggle to maintain our hand in the business, but God knows our Learned dependence upon Him is greater than our not going through whatever befalls us. We are to count it as a blessing when we go through our tough times, for there is a secret reward for persevering in faith. We have risen to unwavering faith! There is a crown waiting for you...persevere, keep walking the line of faith, do not give in or give up. The Lord is with you!
