“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock…” ~ Matthew 7:24
Nova Scotia is mostly surrounded by water and rocky shores. And of course, since a good portion of her shores are right on the side of the Atlantic Ocean, lighthouses are built and are a ready sight to see, the most famous of course being at Peggy’s Cove. That being said, they are all built upon the rocks of the shoreline. The storms may rise, the waves may crash, but still the lighthouses stand tall and strong, warning the men out at sea of danger. As I read this verse, I liken the words of Jesus to those lighthouses. His words are full of warning, of safety for our soul. His words bring protection and care, love and hope to our wave-crashed heart. It is not just in the hearing of God’s words though, for we must listen to his words and obey them. We must take them into our heart and meditate upon them. They must become as much of us as the lighthouse is to the shoreline. The waves of turmoil may surround us in this life, but we are safe when we practice the word of the Lord. Psalm 119:105-107 reads:
Your word is a lamp
for my feet,
a light on my path.
106 I have taken an
oath and confirmed it,
that I will follow your righteous laws.
107 I have suffered
much;
preserve my life, Lord, according to your
word.
Struggles will come,
the storms will rage, but when the word of the Lord is in our heart and our
actions we will rise above and with his guidance we will outlast the storm.
