Genesis 49:10

The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his ~ Genesis 49:10

We are again reading about the scepter, which was a symbol of a great king or leader. This leader was forecast to come from the tribe of Judah, one of Jacob's twelve sons, one son also of which was Joseph. Of course, all the tribes were still around when Jesus was born, whereas today, the Jews are spread all over and are not in original tribes as they were over 2,000 years ago. What is interesting about Judah, and about Christ being of his lineage is the mother of that lineage - Tamar. A royal king would be born from a relationship which was deceptive in its creation, yet God sees through that in love to bring about a promise He had made to Judah's grandfather, Abram (Abraham). The staff mentioned would be a tribal gift passing from father to son, the indication that indeed, Judah's lineage would bring about greatness in the one to whom it belongs. This passage has always been messianic, including by the Jews. In some scriptures it reads as Shiloh, a name of the Messiah. In Revelation we read that one day all nations will fall and pronounce Him Lord over all. We await that day, the second coming of the Lord, just as the world once waited for the first. To believe in Him who has come, to wait for Him who will again come! He is the Christ, the Saviour, the Child born in a manger for you and me!
