And without
faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must
believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him ~
Hebrews 11:6
Faith is a
funny word. We sometimes think we don’t have enough faith, and then we read
that if we have faith as small as a mustard seed, we can move mountains! Just
before these words were spoken, when the disciples of Jesus could not heal a
boy, they were chastised for their lack of faith. If the faith of a mustard
seed can move mountains, how little was their faith that could not heal? It is
a big question. And, if it only takes a little faith to believe in the existence
of God, how little does that turning belief need to be? By the response of
Jesus, I would think it would not need to be much. Yet it is so difficult for
men and women to come and turn their lives over to the One who does and will reward
them! The Lord never leaves hungry those who come with empty souls. In knowing
this promise, even those of us who have found God through faith, still struggle
with how much we need. As I started this blog today, I stated we at times don’t
think we have enough. Will God lead me to my next job, we ask? Will He bring us
the right boyfriend, girlfriend, pastor, home, and you fill in the blank, etc.?
We ask Him and trust Him to provide for us, and then we take it all back and
ask over again. To believe is to trust; to trust is to leave it in His hands.
That is how faith works, how believing and seeking bring their rewards. Thank God
he understands our weaknesses and loves us through them! The faith of not
turning to Him however, is one that cannot be forgiven.
