1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it ~ 1 Corinthians 10:13

Paul is saying there is nothing we face in life which is so specific to us that we alone have dealt with it. What we are tempted with, so has another been tempted with. The question is, what we do with that temptation. Do we succumb, or do we fight it in the power of Christ? Our tendency is to give in, just this once we say to ourselves. It won’t hurt me, or anyone else, so just this once…but too often that rationality leads to again and again. Our human nature just seems to be wired that way, and what we think we will do only once feeds an adrenaline and it then becomes a habit. But with Christ at our side we are able to fight the temptations of life. We can still give in, sure, when we look away from Christ that does happen. When we look toward Christ for strength to accomplish the power over our own desires, we find the strength to stay on track. It is far easier to follow Christ’s example for our life when our eyes are looking up rather than around. If you are fighting a battle right now, ask for help from the Great Helper, look up to Him for strength and He will hold you. The Lord God will provide a way out of your temptation, so stay close to Him, stay in His word, stay in prayer and supplication, stay in relationship with He who provides a way out of that which would bind us in sin!
