2 Corinthians 4:7-9

But
we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is
from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed,
but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not
destroyed ~ 2 Corinthians 4:7-9
Jeremiah
18 gives us the beautiful picture of the potter working at the wheel, shaping
the clay. We are the jar of clay, formed by our Creator, the Lord God. Through
our life experiences, we have not escaped without a crack or a chip, but as
this image shows, it is through those cracks and chips the light of Christ
glows forth and displays His beauty, as Paul wrote above. The power which gets
us through our days of harshness is the treasure of the Holy Spirit power and
the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He is our power and our hope. How a clay jar is
formed is interesting. Without the fire, the jar is just a wet, sloppy, mess of
mud. Once the fire has been applied, it is strong, sturdy and solid, but it is
also this solidity which makes it fragile and apt to crack and chip. Though we
be frail and feeble, and though accidents may come upon us, when the power of
God is applied, great things will be accomplished. The treasure contained
within us as Christ followers exceeds then what humanity expects. Something
worthy is produced.
