Mathew 6:6

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you ~ Matthew 6:6

Prayer is how we communicate with God, and He with you and me. Prayer is a personal talk and open frankness with the God who created us and loved us so much He sent His Son to die for us. It is not that we should not be able to pray in the public sphere, we do need to be able to do that, but it is not a loud attention seeking event, gathering accolades for our own glory. Whether our prayer is public or private, it is to come into the place and space of God.  It is to enter into His divine presence. Personal prayer time is the most secret conversation of our soul with God, it is as one lover sharing with another. Prayer requires that we "close the door" to the outside world of profanity and treachery and enter into God's holy chamber. Peter, we recall, went up on to the roof to pray, and it was there he was led to open the door of his heart and baptize the. Gentiles. If we do not enter into a place where only His ear can hear, and no other eye can see, we miss our opportunity with our Maker. Prayer is the element of being, it is to breathe in the air which sustains.
