John 19:30
So
when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing
His head, He gave up His spirit ~ John 19:30
His life
was finished. He had completed the journey of being the incarnate Son of God,
living as a human with all the temptations, the poverty and toil we may
undergo. He had dealt with hunger, fatigue, and temptation, yet had never
sinned in His desire to fuel His human nature, but always lived as holy obedient
and useful. And the final pain, grief, and torture were ending. All this was
finished. And He had finished the process of redemption for the people of God.
No longer was a sacrificial lamb or goat needed, no longer was a priest necessary
as the intercessor for divine forgiveness, no longer would a man or woman fear
to enter before the presence of God in prayer. Every prophet’s claim had been
fulfilled, for He had authenticated each and every one. What Adam could not do,
Jesus accomplished. The sin of the world had been removed; the covenant promise
fulfilled. What Satan saw as an ending was only the beginning!
