Proverbs 21:21

Whoever pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honour ~ Proverbs 21:21

It only stands to reason that if I pursue righteousness and life, I will find the blessings of life, yet, do I always remember to pursue the right things in life? That is my big question this morning. In every person there are many opposite virtues. Think of someone who is gentle yet courageous, or full of energy yet very patient, and this one small aspect of God’s character - justice and mercy. Justice alone marks a character of deficiency; it could be trusted by not loved. Mercy is the other side – it makes one weak when not countered with justice. The object of this proverb is goodness, the true pursuit of all people. Or, it should be. Holiness and happiness are inseparable. Love is not that love which is self-seeking, but it is love which is self-denying and compassionate. Both of these, righteousness and love, stem from within a person but both are other orientated. What will benefit the other is the idea. This is life as given to us from God, and as we give life to others, bringing honour and glory.
