Matthew 6:25

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? ~ Matthew 6:25

First, Jesus does not say that we should not take care for our lives, but He does say we should not be overly worried about the material of this world. We aren’t to divide our mind by worrying about those things which draw it back and forth, thereby making any important decision about life difficult to attain. To be anxious about the means of sustenance leads us to lose our satisfaction in what God provides. When we work, if we don’t place all our hope in our earnings, but in God’s providence, we are obeying His will. I know that is hard, especially when the costs of life seem overwhelming. We have to be careful about the choices we make, which is far easier to say when one has much, but the aim here is to place our trust in the God who does provide for the needs of His people. One can live on very little, if one has a mind to, however, the mind goes toward the wants of life, the “more than” of life. It is our spirit God is concerned about here. If we live a life of anxiety and looking to the future with hopelessness, where is faith in God demonstrated? Faith is placing our trust in the unseen. There is no promise made for an anxious person. The promise comes to the ones who have faith in a God who blesses us, who knows our needs, and who will attend to those needs.
