1 Chronicles 29:11
Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all ~ 1 Chronicles 29:11
These words are the beginning words of a prayer said by King David as he passed the gauntlet of building the first temple for the Spirit of the Lord to dwell within. The Lord had revealed to David the plans for this new Temple, and David had given his best provisions for its erection and display from his own treasure, as well as the treasures offered up by the people. So now, before all the people, David offers up this prayer to the Lord and God he has depended upon. He offers them up to the God who defended him, protected him, and set him up as king of Israel. This is the God who spared his life when pursued by Saul, who blessed him from amongst his brothers, who helped him fight the Philistines and the giant, Goliath. This is the God he worships now. This God he worships is possessed of the greatness, power, glory and majesty and is perfect in all and above all. He is above all that is created in magnificence and grandeur, in might and in honour, and is exalted above all. Everything, small or great in both heaven and earth belongs to this God David worships. All is made by Him, all is owned by Him, all belongs to Him. The people of the world around us think they own their possessions, they own their own selves; they do not recognize the One who created them, nor do they recognize that anything they have comes from that Great Other. They are blinded to this God David is worshipping. They are deaf to the praises which rise up to the One who has set up the greatest kingdom ever, they are blind and deaf and mute to praise the One whom is over nature, who gives provision, the One who has sole dominion over all. David is grateful. Are you? Are you grateful that the Temple David planned, and his son, Solomon built, is now built within you? Are you grateful the God David prayed and exalted is still the same God for you? Are you grateful for the Lord’s provision in your life, for His protection, for His blessings, for Him walking the journey of life with you? Pray these words today, along with the others who may read them, and think of the God who has saved you and slain the giants you have faced! He is above all, praise God! Amen!
