Isaiah 49:13
Shout for joy,
you heavens;
rejoice, you earth;
burst into song, you mountains!
For the Lord
comforts his people
and will have compassion on his afflicted
ones ~ Isaiah 49:13
The writers of
Scripture at times make the heavens and earth seem as though they have
personhood and personalities. Isaiah here uses Scripture by way of the heavens
and earth to express thankfulness for all the benefits received from God. The
reason for the thanksgiving is because God comforts His people and will raise
up the poor in spirit. Though it may not be a direct prophecy about the coming
of the Messiah, it is a statement about the promises which He, Jesus, fulfills
for those who are called His people. Jesus Christ came to bring peace, hope,
love and joy, to heal the injured, and to strengthen the lowly. Born in humble
beginnings, by becoming Incarnate and taking on our flesh, having suffered by
bearing our stripes, He knows compassion and how to comfort our mortal beings.
There will be a day when the Suffering Servant will complete His work of
salvation, and the whole of creation, including humanity, will finally be
liberated from the effects induced upon this earth by the choice of Adam and
Eve. Come, Lord Jesus, Come! We give
thanks and praise for His comforting presence and the promise of His return!
