Micah 5:2
“But you,
Bethlehem Ephrathah,
though you are small among the clans of
Judah,
out of you will
come for me
one who will be ruler over Israel,
whose origins are
from of old,
from ancient times” ~ Micah 5:2
In this time in
history, there were two Bethlehem towns. One was in the tribe of Zebulun, much to
the north. This town of Bethlehem Micah prophecies about was small, in fact too
small to be counted by the clans of Judah, and was to the south east of Jerusalem.
The name Bethlehem means “House of Bread” and “fruitfulness” and apparently,
though it deals with oppression in our modern age, it is still a fruitful
place. It is from this “too small to be counted” place where Jesus was born in
the lowly stable. Out of weakness comes strength. Out of humble beginnings come
the King of Eternity. From the birth of a tiny baby comes the beginning of
time. He who came forth was a part of God’s plan, His Divine Will, and was to
be its Ruler. When we are weak, it is His strength which carries us. When we
feel too small to be used by Him, He enables us to carry out His designs. When
we do not feel we can make a difference, He makes the difference in us.
