Titus 3:4-7

But when the kindness and love of God our Saviour appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Saviour, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life ~ Titus 3:4-7

The kindness and love of God our Saviour is wrapped up in more than swaddling clothes, His divine outcome for us is wrapped up in the stripes He bore, and the nails which pierced Him, all for our sake. This is the mercy of God in all its fullness, that we did not have to do, but that He did for us! We cannot earn our way into God’s love, or into His kingdom, we cannot work our way into heaven. God loved us before we loved Him, God sent His Son that we might come before Him without shame or stain. When my children, and then consequently my grandchildren were born, they did not have to prove they were righteous before I loved them. In fact, they were more prone to some mischief and to the complexity of learning what yes and no meant. I loved them no matter what. I loved them before they were born. So it is with our God and Father, and Son, Jesus Christ, who then in His great love and sacrifice sent us His Holy Spirit, giving us a new birth, a new name, a new belonging, a new hope!
