Isaiah 42:9

See the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being I announce them to you ~ Isaiah 42:9

We are in the middle of winter where I live and all is dead, cold, icy. The trees are bare of foliage, the ground barren of grass and flower. The clouds above are usually gray and dark, and little sunshine peeks through. For those who may deal with depression, winter is a hard time of year to live through. These Words we read though are the words God is speaking to his people, and the image reminds me of springtime. There is hope, there is something on the horizon, there is promised life from the death of the present. Israel at this time was under Babylonian captivity, the people had been torn from their homeland, torn from their temple, torn from their God. All was dark and dreary. The former things predicted now spring into the redemption of Israel from Babylon, and through it, God’s revelation will come to all nations. Though this nation could not see it, One would come and the prophecies would be fulfilled through the mission and incarnation of Jesus Christ. He would redeem, He would save, and the new things would not only come, but they would amaze the world! New would be delivered out of the old, and all nations would know His name.
