Romans 6:6, 7
For we know that our old self was
crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that
we should no longer be slaves to sin—because anyone who has died has been set
free from sin ~ Romans 6:6, 7
What sets us apart as Christians is
not that we will never sin again once we come to Christ, for we do and we will,
but that we have been justified in Christ through His shed blood on the cross.
This is what sets us apart. We will make mistakes, miss the mark and fall prey
to our “old man” at times; that is what it is to be human. We are all in
process, completed and perfected only when we cross through the doorway into
the heavenly realm. It is through the blood of Christ and His indwelling Holy
Spirit that we fight off more readily the “old man” which leads us into sin and
thereby have the title of being a saint. Because of the Cross, we are freed from
serving the old man of our past for we have been regenerated through the power
of Christ. He has atoned for our sin. Through the forgiveness of Christ we are no
longer bound into eternal punishment, for in Him we are free. There is power in
the name of Jesus, and in His name, and when we call upon His name, sin runs, for
the enemy of our soul is terrified. 1 Peter 5:8 tells us the devil prowls
around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. When we stand strong
in our faith, when we resist the devil in Jesus’ name, His power becomes our
power, and our “old man” is conquered. Dying to oneself gives over our
temptations, desires, lusts, and idolatry and places them upon the cross where Christ
takes them and with Him, they die. We then are raised with Him into a new life,
a new being, a new purpose! Praise God, we are set free!
