Matthew 21:21

Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done ~ Matthew 21:21

A few days ago, I talked about faith from the Hebrews 11:1 scripture. It is hoping for what we cannot visually see, but that we, through the indwelling Holy Spirit can spiritually visualize. Faith distinguishes between those things which are unreal and illusive and enables us to feel and act as if they were real. Jesus is talking to his disciples in this verse, and tells them that God’s power, which reaches into all things, will enable them to perform miracles in His name. It is to acknowledge that God can and will perform things that are above the strength of nature because He created all things. Our mind must be steadfast in faith, with no hesitation or doubting. We too often see our discouragements and difficulties and give them more power than God’s power. He can accomplish more than we can imagine! We must believe in hope against hope that what we faithfully ask according to His will can and will be accomplished. Now, we do not know if his disciples ever told a mountain to go and throw itself into the sea, but what Jesus is saying is that whether we ask for the healing of a person, or the moving of a mountain, if we have faith we would be able to perform things which are difficult and surprising. Prayer is the true test of faith. We need to speak it inwardly or outwardly to acknowledge that we believe it. Without prayer, our requests are not made known, and if our requests are not made known, how can we grow in confidence in a God who desires to listen and answer? An answer cannot come if the question is not aroused. This promise belongs to all God’s people in all ages. Pray, ask, believe, have faith! Then, wait and see what the Lord will do!
