Colossians 2:6, 7
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as
Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you
were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness ~ Colossians 2:6, 7
It takes faith to receive Jesus Christ into the heart, to believe he is the Son of God, the Saviour of the world, the Messiah which was promised. Hebrews 11:1 tells us plainly “faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” It is to see with the “eye of the soul”. It is the soul which receives Christ as Lord, and it is the heart which is changed by His teachings, His love, His life and His Holy Spirit which lives then within the believer. Paul the Apostle is urging the believers to continue on in this faith by which they were reborn, and to continue on believing in Him, though they were surrounded by false teachers who were trying to introduce worship of angels. He was the One they were to imitate in grace, love, patience, humility and meekness. It was He they were to lean on and receive the strength from as they walked the journey of life. It also is to Jesus Christ they give thanks and praise for as they grow into His likeness. As we hear more and more talk about COVID and its progress around the world, many people are afraid and living in fear. It is wise to live these days with restraint in what was “normal” daily living, but we cannot be consumed by fear of living. Faith in Christ will not keep COVID away from a believer, but I do believe we can see something that a non-believer cannot see, and that is the acting of God. Not in bringing this about, God did not send COVID to punish, but this disease has done something to this world God can and will use – the slowing down, the re-thinking of priorities, the importance of quality rather than quantity. Not in every person, no, but more people now than before are thinking of these things. I pray that people will come back to the Lord God, will seek Jesus as their Saviour, and receive the Holy Spirit within. He is the Vine of our Salvation!
