Proverbs 22:6
Start
children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will
not turn from it ~ Proverbs 22:6
I
live in a country where our children, and probably their parents, are
biblically illiterate. When I grew up the Bible was taught, and many and most
people attended church every week. I went to Sunday school and my first Bible
was received when the Gideon Bible organization came into my classroom and gave
us all a little New Testament. Children now only hear about the words of God if
their parents happen to go to church, which, unfortunately, is not the norm for
our world. Most certainly children do not hear about God as Saviour and
Redeemer from our school systems, and if parents are not teaching about God,
they have no way of knowing the life of faith and belief in One who will guide,
comfort, teach, offer truth, give healthy boundaries. The world is a powerful
deterrent to godly living and belief. It has pulled children out of the fold
and into the secular. When children do not have a good influence in their young
lives, what then is the foundation upon which they grow? Many of our young
children are a lost generation, not only to faith in God, but lost in their
very core. They have no hope. They seem to wander without knowing who they are
or where they are going. When our children grow up in Christ, though the world
is big, they know they are loved by One who will guide and keep them, who has
created them for a purpose and will lead them to it. They know there is One
they can pray and talk with when troubles come, and they know that One will
protect them through those troubles. If your children or grandchildren are this
lost generation, pray for them in earnestness. God will answer, though we know
not His timing. Live your life as an example, for they do see your faith. Trust
in the Lord for your family, that they would know Him as you know Him.
