Proverbs 23:25

May your father and mother rejoice; may she who gave you birth be joyful! ~ Proverbs 23:25

 

Respect and love for parents and our elders is a good motive, but the greatest force upon our minds is the renewal by God’s Spirit of truth and grace. It is He who is the sustainer of our life, it is He who is our salvation. In writing this, I recognize the counsel and authority wise parents have for their children is sometimes ignored at certain stages of life. Good and godly parents have much to teach their children, yet the temptations of youth disregard the words spoken to them very quickly. The instruction given here is to seek after truth. How desirous we should go after her. To stand up in and for truth against hypocrisy, falsehood, and indifference is an honourable quest. Seek after wisdom, instruction, and understanding. Only those who are vain and pompous refuse to seek after these qualities which they can glean from others. Jesus is the Way, the Life and the Truth. If you come to Him seeking His way, you will find integrity of life, wholesomeness of character, a valiant heart, and wisdom in the mind. What parent would not want a child so clothed with these qualities?

Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in sharing their own opinions ~ Proverbs 18:2 If we are going to understand something, we must fully digest it so that when we speak, we speak with wisdom. When we have only half truths in our mind, our words become empty and senseless. We then puff out air rather than understanding when we speak. A wise person will want to improve their mind through learning in various ways from the world around them. A person who delights in spiritual understanding will find peace and enjoyment in reading the Word of God on a daily basis, and in participating with God’s people in a learning and praising environment – the church! Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert ~ Isaiah 43:19 When we meet a challenge, we are often found discouraged, lost, even hopeless. Nothing is working, everything seems to be against us. We do not know how to move forward, so we remain curled up in a ball. Then, a glimmer of light shines through! Hope is regained and movement is stirred within. Don’t we become excited when we begin to feel it? God moves like that. We cannot see our way around it, but He can and does.
