Proverbs 10:7

The name of the righteous is used in blessings, but the name of the wicked will rot ~ Proverbs 10:7

Every one of us will leave behind a memory. What kind of memory depends entirely upon what kind of person we have been. There are memories that do not rot, for there are those that dwell on them and keep them alive in their heart though they are poisoned by those thoughts. All others who may have had contact with those same memories have healthy feelings and keep their thoughts at a distance, thereby remaining pure in themselves. The names of the righteous are remembered as blessing because they have lived a life walking with God. And, who would not like to preserve a noble name? When those who have inspired us are remembered, we are built up to live as they lived, to care about what they cared about. We are blessed greatly when our thoughts of yesterday are filled with the beautiful, the loveable. In our world there are all sorts of characters, some of extraordinary good in action and others who carry with them the character of evil and hatred. As I read this verse, I think of what memory I want to leave with my children and grandchildren. I think we should all think of that, for our memory will lived on. Let our children, and their children find us faithful to our principles and to our Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour. Then, when we are gone, our memory will be blessed. May we all leave memories that are a blessing, may we leave “footprints behind for others to walk in” (W. Morris).
