John 8:34

Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin ~ John 8:34

Everyone of us will commit a single act of sin. I may use my words today to sin, or I may even sin In ways as those found in the Bible like Noah, David, and even Peter, who forsook Jesus. These people committed single acts, not sin into which they had given themselves over to do by ways of evil and wicked behaviour. Those who give themselves over in this way enjoy their lusts, their pleasure in it whatever it might be. Jesus came to set us free from our past behaviour. In Him, we are no longer bound by the past, but live with liberty. Around us every day, if we look close enough, we see many people bound up in drugs, alcohol, and the list can go on with those vices which collect people into a common denominator - slaves of sin. We live in a very broken world, this is true, but we also live in a world which is free if it wishes. Jesus came as a gift to the world to release us and free us. When we turn to Him and receive Him, He enters our heart and our life, and our world is transformed into His world. We are transformed into His image once more, day by day, as we follow Him.

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert ~ Isaiah 43:19 When we meet a challenge, we are often found discouraged, lost, even hopeless.
