Isaiah 26:4
Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal ~ Isaiah 26:4
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in
Thee;
Let the water and the
blood,
From Thy riven side
which flowed,
Be of sin the double
cure,
Save me from its
guilt and power.
(Thomas Hastings,
1784-1872).
The Lord is our
everlasting strength, never failing, never changing. In Him our confidence is
sure. There is no calamity, adversity, poverty, trial of any kind that will
separate us from His love and protection. God is like an eternal rock, such as that
which Thomas Hastings wrote in this great old hymn. To trust in the Lord
implies a total and complete submission to the will of God, whatever it may be
and however it may take form. It is to have the assurance that what He is
doing, what He will do, will always be what is right. This verse also assures
us that when we go to the Lord in prayer and petition, our voice will be heard
by Him. It is to know that you and I, in our advances toward the Lord God may
depend and expect Him to respond. It is to say, “Jehovah-Jireh, the Lord will
provide” for He is the everlasting God.
