Colossians 1:9

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives ~ Colossians 1:9

Who do you pray for? What do you pray for them to receive? The apostles state clearly they have not stopped praying for the Colossian church. They also ask for specific needs to be met by God for these people as they pray. Knowledge, wisdom, and understanding may seem to some a natural condition, but the apostles are asking for a deeper spiritual granting of knowledge, wisdom and understanding. They are praying for that which comes from God into our spirit from Him. The apostles prayed and desired in earnest God would grant them the knowledge of His will so all would be redeemed and regenerated in Christ. I pray that for my one child and my grandchildren. I pray their eyes would be opened to His saving grace, and they would reach out and receive His gift. I expect you may pray that way as well. To know that our loved ones have received the gift of eternal life assures us that one day when this life is over for us and for them, we will be reunited in the heavenly realm. The apostles prayed for wisdom and spiritual understanding as well. That the Colossians would be led into the wisdom of God, knowing the deep things of God. This is to pray for discernment for the occasions in which they find themselves. It is to pray that those we love would make wise choices in life, that they would stay on the clear path, or the level path of life. There are so many variables in the world today for those are a part of it. My prayers for my family are ones that pray they would remain clear of all that would bring them down, that would steal their long-term joy and happiness, and that the decisions they make would draw them closer to a God they have abandoned. In that, I thank God that He has not abandoned them. Prayer…with prayer and faith you can move mountains!
