Habakkuk 2:14

For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea ~ Habakkuk 2:14

There will come a day when the revelation of God’s character and His traits will fill the minds and hearts of people and they will know Him as the God of the heavens and earth! We see only glimpses of God in the world around us now, but those small glimpses give us insight into a powerful, wise God. What we cannot see in nature is His mercy and forgiving love for all who come seeking Him. God loved us so much He sent His Son, Jesus Christ to die, taking our sins and punishment to the cross. This we cannot see in nature or understand by looking solely at nature. We need to know Jesus so that we can know the Father. This is how we come to understand the glory of the Lord as “the waters cover the sea.” This knowledge gives us life, it fits us for heaven, it grants to us a spiritual life which will last forever. This knowledge of God has been stifled in our day as people turn to other spiritualities and other gods. The small group of followers of Jesus should have died out after Christ was crucified. They instead were filled with His Holy Spirit, and came boldly out of hiding, spreading the Good News wherever they travelled. I know the authorities then thought it was the end of the little band known as “The Way”. But the knowledge of the glory of the Lord has travelled for more than two millennium beyond that first century, and in fact for many millenniums before Christ, but still people turn away. We who are followers of Jesus are assured of this: though the force of evil is strong and terrible, it will not prevail. There is coming a time when the righteous will prevail and God at last will triumph over all evil. Even now, the only evil allowed is that which God uses for His purpose. Evil will last only as long as God pleases. The Gospel covers the world over, translated into many languages, and continues so. This knowledge is accessible to many peoples; its “voice covers the earth as the waters cover the sea”. Its knowledge will not be silenced!
