Galatians 6:1
Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted ~ Galatians 6:1
Not one of us is perfect, even in the church! Maybe I should rephrase that: not one of us is perfect, especially in the church. There are undoubtedly many, many good people I have met in the church life, but we are still all incomplete in our sanctification. The day when we will be complete and perfect is the day when we stand before our King. So, it is with meek and gentle hearts that we are to come before a fellow brother or sister who has fallen by the wayside into sin. It is with a forgiving heart we are to discipline those who have turned from God’s ways. And, we have to be sure it is away from God they have turned and into a definite sin. If we ourselves do not have a spirit of meekness we have no business trying to restore someone else. The Bible tells us not to judge each other and to make sure that if we prepare to take the log out of another’s eye and our eye does not contain that same log. This is true, but we are also to care for one another. If I see someone who is a part of the Christian faith falling into temptations of various kinds, my heart does not want to leave them and neglect them to their vice. Most often our private vices lead only to destruction of our soul, and that would by my care. The enemy of our soul is sly, and he will seek to devour even the chosen of God if we let him in. Church leaders and members have come to shame because of their falling into temptations. We cannot stand by and let a brother or sister be lost if we have the chance to speak into their life. We also cannot speak into their life if we have the attitude of being “better than thou”. That then would be our sin. Always we are to speak with love and grace, and forgiveness to lead the lost back into the fold of Christ.
