2 Corinthians 10:5
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ ~ 2 Corinthians 10:5
Paul has stated that he is timid, but also bold. He is timid in person, but he is ready to take a bold stand when he writes, knowing that if he does not, the church plant can be sent off in all sorts of tangents by those who come preaching a different message than his. His message of course, is the message of Christ. When it comes to mixed messages about Jesus, Paul will stand and fight, but not as the world fights. His weapon is the power of the Holy Spirit. There is no fighting against the Spirit of God, for God will vanquish every enemy through the power of Truth and Love. We are to be timid when we are trying to win the world to Christ, but we are also to be bold in our actions and our living out what Christ calls us to be and do. We are not in this day and age listened to, in fact, we are shut down, but still we must speak truth and we must do so in love. To take captive every thought means that we must judge what the world says against what the word of God says. We cannot listen to the world and ignore God’s word in the Bible! We are of this world, but not to be in this world. Our thinking and our actions must represent Jesus. If people cannot look at us and see a difference, then we must not be living as Christ. We have the divine power of our Lord Jesus Christ living within us – from that power the strongholds of this world are fought and taken captive. Never be afraid to be bold in Christ! This world desperately needs what we have – the love and fellowship with the true God!
