Matthew 6:33

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well ~ Matthew 6:33

Some people put their glasses down and then have to go searching for them. I put my cell phone down and then can’t remember where and I have to go from room to room searching. My thoughts, my energy, my deepest concentration is bent on looking for that black phone which tends to blend into too many places! Until I find it, I cannot rest! Do we do that when we seek after God? Do we spend our energy, our concentration, our thoughts on looking for him and for what he has for us in his word or through our prayers? That is what this verse is all about…diligently seeking first and foremost God’s kingdom and his righteousness. What exactly does that mean for us? Well, to put it plainly, it is to seek after what is Godly in an ungodly world. It is to look with the eyes of God at everything we set out to do or think. It is to follow his word and the life of Jesus Christ. To love as he loves, to share as he shared, to uplift as he uplifted. The world looks at material possessions first. They want a house, a new car, fancy shoes, and a big bank account. It is not that God does not allow us to have these things, but they are not what we are to seek after. And the truth is, not all who follow Christ will have all things given to them in they way they want. Christians do suffer, they are killed, they may not be rich in finances. But they will have what they need. God will supply our needs so that we can minister and provide in the ways he calls each one of us. God is more concerned about what we need than what we want. What we need first is him in our heart and our life. All things after that will come as is necessary.
