Matthew 9:37, 38

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field” ~ Matthew 9:37, 38

The field is still out there ready for harvest and the workers still are few. Many thoughts come to my mind as I read these scripture verses. Years ago, I knew a woman who wanted something to do for the church and for her Lord, but never seemed to find that something. All that was suggested to her was always turned down – it wasn’t what she thought she needed to do, or it did not fit her style, or it wasn’t enough. There always seemed to be an excuse as to why she could not find something to do for Jesus, though suggestions were ignored. One day I had a vision of her in a large field, walking along with her hands just rippling the large grasses as she passed by. It was the revelation that she would never find how she could spread the word of God or do anything for him because she was just drifting through her Christian life. I am a pastor now, and I am expected to minister the word to others, but the truth is, we are all called to use the word of God to minister. We live in a very hurt world, and a very anti-God world and that is difficult. If we would truly reflect upon the book of Acts, or any of the Apostle Paul’s letters we would recognize our world is no different than the world the disciples lived in after Jesus was resurrected. It was not easy then to spread the Gospel, and it is not easy now, but it is our responsibility. If we saw our neighbours, our associates, our family, our co-workers as lost to Jesus would we better want to lift their soul to know Jesus? Would we invite them to our home for a talk which could lead to Jesus? Would we invite them to our church for fellowship to begin with which would them to get to know our Saviour? I know these are different times with covid still around, but how can we be creative and still go out ready to harvest the crop for our Lord? Here’s a plan. Begin easy…start to pray for your neighbours. If you walk, then walk and pray for each home as you pass by. Lift them up before the Lord and ask him to show you opportunity to be a worker for him. He will show you and lead you how to use your sickle to harvest his crop. Be a worker for Christ. Don’t just drift through life knowing you are safe…there are many drowning souls to save.
