1 Peter 3:12
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil ~ 1 Peter 3:12
This is a promise for those of us who believe in a God who does not sway in his thoughts toward us. When we come to our God in prayer, when our hearts are right before him, our prayers are heard. The Lord does not promise our prayers will be answered the way we want, for his will for us and this world is what is most important to him. When we pray in his will because we are seeking his will, our prayers will be answered in a way that is a blessing to us and to others. God wants what is good for us and others. That does not mean we will not go through trials and testing. God places those on our path to strengthen our faith, our trust, and our hope in him. When we come through the other side of those trials, we are better able to pray for those who will experience what testing we have run the race of faith through. God desires that we follow him, and so the promise is for the other side as well. If we do not follow him, we will not be praying in his will, and our prayers will not be heard. We cannot curse the name of the Lord one day and then expect him to send us money from the lottery the next day. Neither is following his will, and neither will please him. Our hearts are to be true, open to his leading, and seeking him above all things. And so should our prayers be found to follow the same path.
