Psalm 42:2

My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? ~ Psalm 42:2

My soul thirsts for God! What a beautiful expression of the needs of the psalmist for his God. He is dry and parched and only the living God can satisfy his needs! We hunger in this world. We hunger for fame, for financial gain, for prestige, for love, yet in its hungering, the world continues to seek it in wrong places. The world longs for deep needs to be filled, yet enough is never enough. It baffles me why the world is so bent on turning away from God instead of toward him. But when we read the Bible we see it repeated, and they are us and our world, just in a different time and place. Those of us who know the Lord seek him, we thirst for him, we long for him because we know that he is our only satisfaction. We long to be filled by his Spirit, to sense his closeness and presence, to come into the place where we once again are rejuvenated and refreshed! The psalmist asks when he can meet with God. We ask the same thing. Our lives are busy, each day passes by quickly and before we know it a month has passed, or a year. The psalmist desires to slow down, to stop and spend time with God. We cannot be filled unless we do take the time to spend it with the Lord God, to talk with him, and to hear his voice speaking into our heart. In your busy day today, take the time and sit in a quiet place hungering for God, then make sure you take time to stop and listen for his voice to fill you and refresh you.
